The Direct Client Care and Support Industry Reference Committee (IRC) is currently working in collaboration with the Disability Support IRC and the Aged Services IRC to update the Qualifications and relevant Units of Competency within the Certificate III in Individual Support, the Certificate IV in Disability and the Certificate IV in Ageing Support.

Draft 1 of the updated Training Package Products is now available for public consultation and feedback. The Training Package Products and consultation documents are available for comment on the SkillsIQ Online Feedback Forum until 5.00pm on Friday, 12 March 2021.

A series of webinars have also been scheduled to provide an overview of the key changes and how to provide your feedback.

The NSW Training Awards are conducted annually by Training Services NSW within the NSW Department of Education to recognise outstanding achievement in the Vocational Education and Training sector.

In collaboration with industry stakeholders we have launched G8way, a free website designed to provide disability support workers, self-managed participants and disability sector students with fundamental information to guide working in the National Disability and Insurance Scheme (NDIS) environment. 

G8Way is free, available 24/7 and easy to navigate.

G8Way’s flexible design allows users to select learning according to their needs, within the four information hubs on the site. ‘A key feature is the optional ‘Check Your Knowledge’ activity of four short quizzes that, when successfully accomplished, will provide the user with a G8Way Completion Report. This may assist the user with job applications and interviews or contribute to skills recognition when enrolling in training to further support an exciting and valuable career pathway,’ said Community Services and Health ITAB Executive Director Susan Scowcroft.

Funded by NSW Government, Training Services NSW Executive Director David Collins said, “Our capacity to provide a quality workforce to meet NDIS demands will be strengthened by the increasing skill and access to resources of our disability support workers. G8Way offers a hub for our disability support workers to engage with the changes being brought about by the NDIS and the key concepts of effectively facilitating participants’ choice and control as well as safely delivering quality services. G8Way also provides NDIS Participants with a sound understanding of what to expect from their service and support providers and will assist them to realize quality service provision.”
