SkillsIQ, under the direction of the Technicians Support Services Industry Reference Committee (IRC), has undertaken a project to develop a new entry-level qualification, the Diploma of Clinical Coding; one new skill set; seven new Clinical Coding Units of Competency; and an update of three existing Clinical Coding Units of Competency to ensure that entry-level clinical coders have access to appropriate skills and knowledge, in order to meet the current and future needs of the Australian health care system.

A widespread multi-channel consultation involving a broad range of stakeholders is now being conducted to address concerns raised in Draft 1 public consultation and in discussions around the Clinical Coding qualification, the Clinical Coding Auditor Skill Set and the Clinical Coding Units and their content.

Validation of Draft 2 will commence on Friday, 12th June and will close at 5.00pm on Monday, 6th July 2020.
